At IIT Gandhinagar, 'tea-ian' PM pitches for 'Digital India'

PM Narendra Modi

PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, arrived in Chotila, Surendranagar district, from Dwarka, on Saturday afternoon, to lay the foundation stone for a greenfield airport for Rajkot and other highway projects, according to media reports. PM landed at Jamnagar airport at 9.30 am and headed for pilgrimage Dwarka in the Devbhumi Dwarka districts in the helicopter. Should an airport be built here, will you people like it? Is this good for your future? It will be situated 27 kilometres from the existing airport at Rajkot, whose capacity is constrained and can not be expanded because of commercial development around it, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Afterwards, Narendra Modi would lay foundation stone for Rs 3,000-crore Bhadbhut barrage project over river Narmada. Also, he would lay the foundation stone of a sea-link bridge between coastal town of Okha and Bet Dwarka Island, following his prayers at Dwarkadheesh. Besides, he also laid foundation for a four-lane state highway connecting Rajkot and Morbi. This is how narrow their concept of development was. "I am happy", he said at the beginning of his two-day Gujarat visit. The new bridge would connect both the pilgrim centres by road. He became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and subsequently became BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Modi said his government was working towards port-led development and empowerment of fishermen.

Mr Gandhi, during his second visit to the state where elections are slated by the year-end, had begun his campaign from the same temple. "And thus, the decisions were taken with consensus at the GST council". I'm sure the common masses will surely thank Prime Minister Modi for this massive flexibility, shown by the GST council.

PM Modi will then dedicate the newly-constructed building of IIT Gandhinagar and launch the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA). An institute for this will be set up in this Devbhoomi of Dwarka.

Continuing on a personal note, PM Modi recalled his tryst with governance. Addressing a public meeting after dedicated IIT Gandhinagar campus to the nation, Mr Modi said that work is underway to spread digital literacy to every part of the country, among all age groups and sections of society.
