When Pallavi did not return home her family members filed a missing complaint with MRA Marg police station, the official said.

Law student Pallavi Vikamsey, who was found dead between Parel and Currey Road stations on Wednesday, lay on the railway tracks for almost half-an-hour before she was carried to a hospital. The latest information about message hints it to be a case of suicide. She was interning with us since three months and studying for her law degree at the Pravin Gandhi College of Law (PGCL) in Mumbai.

The railway police has said that they are probing if the girl fell from the running train on the opposite tracks or whether she jumped off in front of an oncoming train. "They began to search for her and when they couldn't find her, they came to us", said Sukhlal Varpe, MRA Marg police station told The Indian Express.

Pallavi texted her family saying she meant to end her life.

Samadhan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Railway), said the Dadar railway police station was informed by the station master at Dadar at 7.15 pm that a woman's body was lying on the tracks between Currey Road and Parel stations.

The body was handed over to the parents after post-mortem on Thursday. An investigation is on into Pallavi's mysterious death. So, we registered an accidental death report regarding it at the Dadar GRP police station. GRP officials said about eight people are killed daily, most of whom are hit by trains while attempting to cross the tracks. Cops will also be recording statements of the motorman of the train and eyewitnesses who were in the local when the accident occurred. As per the preliminary inquiry, there seems to be no foul play.
