FSU's No. 3 ranking solidifies next weekend's season opener between Alabama and the Seminoles (7 p.m., September 2 in Atlanta) as the first Top-3 matchup to take place on the opening weekend of the season.

South Florida was the highest-ranked team from a Group of Five conference at No. 19.

The ACC placed three other teams in the AP's top-25: A Louisville team led by reigning Heisman victor Lamar Jackson, the Miami Hurricanes and Virginia Tech Hokies.

With a highly anticipated matchup against top-ranked Alabama in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game less than two weeks away, Florida State will begin the season No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, which debuted Monday. Georgia was preseason No. 1 in 2008 and finished 13th; Florida won the national title that season. This is the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that the SEC has had at least six ranked teams in the preseason.

Florida ranked 17th in the AP Poll.

For the third time in the past four seasons, Auburn (No. 12) is ranked in the Top 15 in the preseason poll.

Oklahoma State drew a preseason ranking for the fifth time in the past seven seasons, which is the best stretch in program history. Five- and four-star talents line the roster and could lead to a return to the College Football Playoff after a two-year hiatus.

Leading the AP preseason survey is - not surprisingly - Alabama.

Also that season, LSU went on to win the BCS National Championship. The Irish will open up the 2017 season when they host Temple on September 2nd at 3:30pm at Notre Dame Stadium. So here's one more for Alabama. The Buckeyes earned 1,414 points, just ahead of the Seminoles' 1,396.
