Jinder Mahal Explains Why He Got A WWE Main Event Push And Answers Steroid Accusations

After he insults Naomi, the current SmackDown Women's Champion starts grabbing Ellsworth until Carmella tries to attack her. Shane McMahon and Tamina hold Naomi and Carmella back, respectively, and McMahon decides to turn this into a sanctioned match. We preview tonight's action. Before they challenge for the United States Championship and the WWE Championship respectively this Sunday at Backlash, #1 Contenders would face off on SmackDown LIVE as the #1 Contender for the United States Title, AJ Styles, would go one-on-one with the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, Jinder Mahal.

The show kicked off with U.S. champion Kevin Owen. Styles will probably find his way back into the WWE Title picture at some point this summer, meaning Owens has the better chance to get the win.

The New Face of America takes over Chris Jericho's talk show, and hostility escalates between AJ Styles and The Maharaja.

The go-home show for Backlash was not as bland as one might expect, though it did little to get one excited for Sunday night's pay-per-view. But, Orton has a big match tonight.

-Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin. Sami says his match with Baron Corbin at Backlash has been granted. This was to make the six-woman tag team match official for this Sunday's Backlash.

One one side will be Carmella, Natalya and Tamia - the newly formed faction called The Welcoming Committee, who have made an impact on the division since joining forces a few weeks ago.

Dolph Ziggler cut a promo on Shinsuke Nakamura before facing him at Backlash. That way his feud with Mahal or Orton can begin without any interruptions.

Speaking of Jinder Mahal, Mahal tonight is scheduled to have a match against AJ Styles. Charlotte Flair, Naomi and Becky Lynch follow, but with individual entrances. However, that makes sense when you consider WWE is only days away from Backlash. Corbin continues the assault, not letting Orton get any room to breathe. Orton hit a powerslam then hit a DDT off the second rope. When Styles attempts to finish him off with a Phenomenal Forearm, Orton lives up to his name and strikes with a precision RKO out of nowhere.

It was then that the Singh Brothers sneak-attacked the champ from behind. JBL was even given a small group - the Cabinet -to protect him, similar to the Bollywood Boyz that Mahal has been using. Mahal hit his finisher to Orton to end the show.
