Pandey sustained the injury during a Kolkata Knight Riders practice session ahead of their IPL Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday confirmed Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for injured Manish Pandey in the Team India squad for ICC Champions Trophy, which starts on June 1.

Karthik is in sublime form and has scored a lot of runs for his franchise Gujarat Lions in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

On the other hand, Pandey, who played a big role in KKR's success this season would feel hard done by his injury as he was set to take part in his first ever 50-over ICC tournament.

Karthik had last played in India colours in the Asia Cup contest against Afghanistan in 2014.

Incidentally, Karthik was a part of the Indian team which won the Champions Trophy, back in 2013. With Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh forming the top five, Karthik might be contesting for the finisher's role with Kedar Jadhav. His average was 86 plus and scored the runs at a strike rate of over 100.

India play arch-rivals Pakistan on June 4 to begin their defense of the Champions Trophy. Apart from Pakistan, India will also lock horns with Sri Lanka and South Africa in their respective group matches. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Dinesh Karthik.
