James Gunn to write, direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'

Gunn made the announcement on his Facebook page and revealed a few details about when the film will take place and what the story will involve. "All I'll say is, unless you have to rush out because your mother is dying, stay through the entire end credits", he tweeted last month when a fan asked about post-credits scenes. Yet the filmmaker also pointed to how his Guardians will begin interlocking with other realms within the Marvel universe, including the Avengers' "Infinity War". In an interview with ScreenRant, director James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the end for the team as we know it-but not the Guardians per se. The first clip is called "Sovereign Fleet" and the second "Death Button", of which you've seen a version in the film's trailers. Even though the sequel isn't even out yet, we can't wait for the threequel! He wrote that the US leg of the press tour will begin this week, and he will then head to Europe to publicize the film there.

So, why did Gunn choose to pack this particular film with more post-credits treats than any other Marvel movie - or superhero film - to date?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is expected to be a blockbuster hit thanks to the success of the first movie. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters May 5. It was a decision, Gunn explained, that didn't come lightly, as he considered Hollywood's history of movie trilogies-and how he didn't want to become a director who pretended a third movie didn't exist because he wasn't involved.

"But the question that comes up perhaps the most is, 'What's the deal with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and are you going to direct?'" James wrote to fans. The gang - led by Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) with Gamora, Drax, Baby Groot and Rocket - is back to save the universe, this time to the music of Awesome Mixtape #2.

If you plan on watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the coming weeks, don't leave the cinema too early.
